An Italian with real history – the Moto Guzzi California 1100EV is a machine well worth considering, a cruiser that actually handles. The transverse Moto Guzzi V-twin engine has a chunky, chuggy character with a healthy 75hp at 6500rpm and 95nm at 5000 rpm only needing to haul 250kg and while the California 1100EV’s not superb at any one thing, it’s a great all-rounder. Moto Guzzi California 1100EV handles amazingly well with much less wobble and wallow than most Japanese and American cruisers with 45mm Marzucchi forks and decent twin-shock suspension it all work extremely well in the California 1100EV. Reliability is generally good but regular maintenance is key. The Moto Guzzi California 1100EV is not cheap new but there’s plenty of rivals that are much, much pricier and California retain value better than any other brand besides perhaps Harley Davidson. The Moto Guzzi California 1100EV’s shaft drive is convenient, linked front and rear brakes are novel and effective with Honda swearing by them as well. The California 1100EV’s seat is comfy and the riding position suits most which is just as well as the 19L tank is good for 350km+. California have a staunch following and it is easy to see why. If you want a cruiser that is lighter than most and handles better than most you’d be hard pressed to go past the Italian marque.
